What began as a 27 student school in 1868 has evolved into a 303 acre university with more than 14, 500 students. Mankato State University has more than 150 undergraduate programs of study, spawning over 100, 000 alumni worldwide. The greater Mankato area owes much of what it has become to Mankato State University.
